What is Fascia?

Fascia is a type of connective tissue found throughout the body. It’s a continuous, web-like structure that wraps around and connects muscles, bones, nerves, blood vessels, and organs. It’s composed of mainly collagen and elastin fibers which allows it to stretch and be strong at the same time.

The fascia network's role is to protect these structures to help them stay in their proper position. But there’s so much more to it and here’s why we think it’s so important:

Fluid Transport System

In order to have full body Hydration, you must be doing fascia work! If you’ve ever foam rolled or used a massage gun and that area instantly “loosens up” it’s because it’s bringing fluid to that area and re-hydrating the tissue.

Nervous System Connection

When we experience trauma from an injury or emotions, the body signals the autonomic nervous system and causes the fascia to stiffen up and protect, which not only leads to a more rigid body but also stored emotions in the body and tissues.

Stress Response

Chronic stress can lead to a constant state of muscle tension. Over time, this tension can cause the fascia to become more rigid and form adhesions, which can restrict movement and cause pain.

Emotional Release

This is why fascia release techniques are gaining popularity to help release stored trauma that also releases restricted areas and improves movement. Incorporating the fascia gun daily with other techniques will help with release.
