Why Glyphosate Testing REALLY Matters

What if one of the most dangerous chemicals in our food system was hiding in plain sight and regulators were still calling it safe?
That’s exactly what’s happening with glyphosate, the active ingredient in Roundup weedkiller. And while it’s been under scrutiny for years, a new two-year controlled study just dropped and the findings are impossible to ignore.
A Landmark Verdict and a Landmark Study
In a recent Missouri court case, Bayer was hit with a $611 million verdict after three individuals developed cancer due to exposure to glyphosate.
But that’s just the tip of the iceberg…
Bayer, the monster pharmaceutical company, (which acquired Monsanto, the original manufacturer of Roundup) is facing over 67,000 lawsuits, with more than $4 billion already awarded in related cases. The lawsuits allege a clear connection between glyphosate exposure and cancers like non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and now science is catching up in a big way.
Just as the verdict was being handed down, a massive new controlled study was released that adds serious weight to these claims. This was a two year controlled study on rats, tracking glyphosate exposure from prenatal development all the way through 104 weeks of life.
Here’s what makes it so significant:
-
Even at the lowest "safe" doses, rats developed leukemia and other aggressive cancers
-
Rats exposed to glyphosate were dying much earlier than those in control groups
-
40% of leukemia deaths occurred before the rats reached one year of age, a chilling comparison to humans developing cancer in their early 30s
The researchers found:
-
Leukemia (multiple types)
-
Liver and kidney cancers
-
Thyroid and brain tumors
-
Tumors in the nervous system, skin, bone, and bladder
The craziest part? In over 1,600 control rats from similar studies, ZERO developed leukemia in their first year of life.
Glyphosate Is Everywhere
Despite this overwhelming evidence, over 1 billion pounds of glyphosate is still sprayed on U.S. crops every year. It’s in the air, soil, water and yes, in our food.
It shows up in:
-
Grain fed beef (animals eat glyphosate drenched soy and corn)
-
Conventional fruits and vegetables
-
Processed foods
We're not trying to scare you, but this is important to face the reality of a food system built for efficiency and profit, not health and safety.
Why You Should Care About Glyphosate Testing
The U.S. regulatory system continues to claim that current glyphosate exposure levels are "safe." But this new study, along with thousands of legal cases and verdicts, shows otherwise.
Testing for glyphosate in food products is no longer optional for brands that care about health. It's a baseline requirement.
At KONO, we believe transparency matters and glyphosate testing is one way we ensure our products are safe, clean, and something we feel good putting into our own bodies (and our kids’ too). We're proud to share our results on each of our products proving they are free of any glyphosate residue.
Because let’s face it we can’t rely on the system to protect us.
How to Minimize Your Exposure
It’s nearly impossible to avoid glyphosate 100% but you can drastically reduce your exposure by making more intentional food choices:
✅ Choose grass fed and grass finished meat and double check how those animals were raised. (Even grass can be sprayed! This is why regenerative or organic farming practices are important)
✅ Buy organic whenever possible, organic products can't be sprayed with glyphosate
✅ Look for glyphosate tested brands (ask for documentation!)
✅ Avoid ultra processed foods especially those made with corn, soy, wheat, and oats
✅ Support regenerative agriculture because it restores soil and avoids chemical overload
The Bottom Line
This isn’t just about one chemical, it’s about a broken system that continues to let toxic substances slip through the cracks and onto our plates.
We can’t wait for regulation to catch up. But until then, we have to be our own advocates.
So read labels. Ask questions. Support brands doing things the right way. And remember: every time you choose clean, real food, you're protecting your health and casting a vote for a better food future.
